Abstrak

The elderly who live in nursing homes are required to adapt themselves to changing
conditions and habits that are different from the environment before they live in
nursing homes where adaptation is important for the survival of the elderly in the
future. This study aims to determine the social adaptation carried out by the elderly.
Based on this, in formulating the problem, it will be discussed how the process of
social adaptation of the elderly living in the Nursing Home, Rumah Bahagia Bintan,
Kawal Village, Gunung Kijang District. This research was conducted through
observation, interviews and documentation conducted by researchers. The method
used is a descriptive qualitative method. The theoretical framework used is the
concept of the self-adjustment theory by Schneiders.. The informant determination
technique used in this research is using purposive sampling technique, with the
informants numbering seven elderly people, including four elderly women and men,
three nursing home staff. The criteria of informants in this study are elderly people
who have lived in the nursing home of Rumah Bahagia Bintan for 1 year, the elderly
who can clearly provide all information or data related to research, officers or
services that care for the elderly. Data analysis techniques used in the study were data
reduction, data presentation, and verification or drawing conclusions.. The results of
this study are 1. Adaptation through attitude and behavior (skills in relationships,
willingness to be open to others, satisfaction in basic needs) 2. Adaptation within the
group (doing activities, performing social roles)
