Abstract

In the Buru Island Community of Lubuk Puding Village, the Tradisi Kenduri Arwah is closely related to the social life of the community, because this tradition is the legacy of their ancestors. This festivity is intended to pray for the “Arwah†of died people with certain rituals. This study aims to determine the tradition of “Kenduri Arwah†on the island of Buru, Lubuk Puding Village, Buru District, Karimun Regency. This type of research is a qualitative research with a descriptive approach. Data collection techniques in this study were observation, interviews and documentation. Interviews were conducted with traditional leaders, prayer readers, and four people who carried out the festivy by using purposive sampling technique. Data analysis techniques using the Miles and Huberman models consisting of Data Reduction, Data Presentation and Conclusion Drawing. The findings in this study are, in the process of carrying out the feast of spirits consists of three days, seven days, twenty days, fourty days, sixty days, and, one hundredt days after someone's death. Before the event begins the family prepares various necessities that will be used in the event such as incense or stick, apam cake and pancake for the “Kenduri Arwahâ€. After everything was prepared, then praying begins with reading al-fatihah, yasin, tahlil and ends with prayer. After finishing the food is served in the form of “apam†cake and other side dishes. This “apam†cake dish is only served on the first day to the three day, while the pancake is served on the seven day and incense is placed at the head of the soul's bed for seven days
