Abstract

In Nyamuk village, Kecamatan Siantan Timur, Kepulauan Anambas regency there is a stone which has the hidden power that can treats the patients and also can protects the village from any danger. The local communities called it as Batu Jongkong. There are some communities who believe to the stone especially rural community so based on it they do a worship to get the power of the stone. However, there are some communities especially migrant communities consider Batu Jongkong as an ordinary stone and the power of the stone is a myth. The research method that used in this research is qualitative research with descriptive approach. The data collection techniques used in this research are observation, interview, and documentation. The informant taking technique is done by using purposive sampling technique, there are 6 informants with criterias such as the rural communities in Nyamuk village who belief and know that many things about the magic or myth power of Batu Jongkong, the migrant communities in Nyamuk village who don’t believe to Batu Jongkong, and the communities who involved in the cases of Batu Jongkong. The data analysis techniques used are data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion.The results of this research found that there is dissimilarity between rural communities and migrant communities in sense of Batu Jongkong. The rural communities sense that Batu Jongkong as a stone which has the magic power (Tok Kadim as a magic creature) and as a sacred stone while migrant communities sense Batu Jongkong as an ordinary stone (there is no Tok Kodim), as a symbol of local community wisdom, and it is not sacred stone. The difference opinion also affected to social relations such as excommunication to the migrant peoples and make a conflict
