PERAN PEMERINTAH DALAM PENYEDIAAN AKSESIBILITAS SARANA DAN PRASARANA RUANG PUBLIK BAGI PENYANDANG DISABILITAS DI KOTA BATAM

Abstract

Every citizen has the same right and position to use public facilities provided by the government, including persons with disabilities. However, until now the rights of persons with disabilities, including the provision of accessibility to public spaces, have not been properly fulfilled. Persons with disabilities still experience difficulties and constraints in using existing facilities, both inside and outside the building. Of course this is contrary to what is stated in Law Number 8 of 2016 concerning Persons with Disabilities which explains that persons with disabilities have the right to equal and equal opportunities in all aspects of life and livelihood. In fulfilling the rights of persons with disabilities, the role of the government is also needed. The government has the duty and responsibility to fulfill every rights of persons with disabilities, including in terms of accessibility. The role of the Batam City government in providing accessibility for people with disabilities is still not optimal, this can be seen from the limited accessibility of people with disabilities in Batam City. For other areas outside Batam City in providing accessibility for people with disabilities it is quite good, but for Batam City itself still far from expectation. Therefore, it takes action from the Batam City government so that its implementation can run properly.
