Abstract

This research describes the existence of chili farmers in Tanjung Sesup, Gading Sari, Tanjung Batu, Karimun Regency, which is indeed Farming, a choice of the first job of the people of Tanjung Sesup and has become a hereditary intelligence in farming and still maintaining cultural values, one of which is ritual or tradition of being grateful for the success of their harvest by slaughtering roosters in every corner of the land, in a thankful ritual ceremony is done every year and it is indeed a tradition that must be carried out because Tanjung Sesup farmers believe in this ritual or tradition, the yield will be much better and also able to increase interest Tanjung Sesup's farming community relations with the land. The Tanjung Sesup farming community believes that if there is no ritual or hereditary tradition, there will be a loss of sense to manage the land / land and not produce a good harvest. The method used in this research is a qualitative method with descriptive type. The subjects in this research were selected using purposive sampling technique. There are eleven informants including chili farmers who do not own land, chilli farmers who own land who work as migrant workers, community leaders. To collect data in this research, researchers used observation, interview and documentation techniques and informan was chosen using purposive sampling technique. The theory used is Weber's Rationality theory.The results of the research illustrate fighting for values derived from the traditions of community life. this rationality is sometimes called rational action. Similar to the actions of the people of Tanjung Sesup who still maintain their jobs as farmers, as carried out by the cultivating farmers, because they fight for values derived from the traditions of community life, in this case the habits of parents who have farmed, so the farmers try to stay as a farmer to carry on the culture of their parents. The farmers' actions are also classified as irrational or irrational because they have considered that other farmers have moved to become Indonesian Workers in Malaysia
