The space grew Kota Lama Tanjungpinang from past investments, its strategic location, and historical heritage have made it a vital object area within the range of government control. The relevance of this policy is the reason the conception of Political Will is put forward. This research is intended to present the Spatial Transformation of the Kota Lama Tanjungpinang periodically, and how the Political Will of the Tanjungpinang City Government for the 2018-2023 period in Spatial Planning of the Kota Lama
The tendency of modernity, and the spirit of the times that are constantly changing, have implications for the development of the city which continues to grow in a variety of novelty and uniqueness. In this study, the study of the production and reproduction of Tanjungpinang city space uses the theory of social space production from Henry Lafebvre. The research approach used is a qualitative approach to data acquisition in this study through observation, interviews and secondary data in the form of books, journals, online news portals, and some other literature related to research.
The results of the study show that the consideration of the need for structuring the Kota Lama is in line with political interests in the efforts of the historical and cultural tourism industry. fortunately the strong historical ties between the Kota Lama and Penyengat Island made it proposed to the National Heritage City program, but the dilemma of the concept of structuring the Kota Lama area planned by the Tanjungpinang city government for the 2013-2023 period, is like the dejavu of zoning the Colonial era area, another problem for the tourism industry in 2020, being the industry most affected by the Covid-19 outbreak, so there is always the possibility of cost and benefit considerations behind the problem to decide how to continue the policy, until the time this research took place, the Kota Lama environmental development plan as its implementing regulation had not yet been enacted into a Peraturan Walikota (PERWAKO)
