Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the various connotation meanings in Muhtadi's Collection of Mantra books. This research uses descriptive qualitative method. The object of research is the book of Mantra Collection by Muhtadi published by the Government of the Riau Archipelago Province, the Library and Regional Archives Agency in 2010. The data studied were spells containing various meanings of connotation. Data collection techniques using note taking (documents). The researcher reads and understands the connotation meaning contained in the research to do the analysis. Data analysis technique is done by collecting data, calcifying, interpreting, analyzing dominant data and making conclusions.

The results obtained from the analysis of the various connotation meanings in Muhtadi's Collection of Mantra books and implementation in teaching Indonesian in high school, then found a variety of connotation meanings: good connotations consisting of high connotations and friendly connotations. Bad connotation which consists of dangerous connotation, inappropriate connotation, bad connotation, rough connotation, and hard connotation. And a neutral or mixed connotation consisting of the connotation of the school form, the connotation of a child, the hypochoristic connotation, and the connotation of the form of a nonsense. Only hypochoristic connotations and nonsesic forms are found, while others are not.
