ENHANCING STUDENTS' SPEAKING SKILL BY USING JCROSS AT SMK NEGERI 1 TANJUNGPINANG

The purpose of this research was to know whether or not JCross in Hot Potatoes can enhance the students' speaking skill at tenth-grade students of SMK Negeri 1 Tanjungpinang. The type of research used in this research was Collaborative Classroom Action Research. Some instruments used to collect the data were observation checklist, short interview, task, and test. The subject of this study was the tenth-grade students of SMK Negeri 1 Tanjungpinang Class X Technic and Computer Networking Program consist of 24 students. The researcher gave the pretest before teaching and learning activity. After the teaching and learning activity has been finished, the researcher gave the posttest to know the students' speaking skill achievement. It analyzed by using the speaking rubric, average, and student speaking skill classification. The use of JCross during the teaching-learning activity could enhance the students' skills in showing their conversation in the class. It can be seen from the teaching-learning process, the students' more active and enthusiastic in the teaching and learning speaking situation by using JCross. In the pre-cycle, the average score was 39.2 in the fair category. In cycle 1 the average score was 41.2 in the good category. In cycle 2, the average score was 43 in the good category. So, it can be concluded that JCross could and effective on enhancing the students' speaking skills at the tenth grade Technic and Computer Networking program of SMK Negeri 1 Tanjungpinang.
