Abstrak

This study aims to describe the errors of the students and the cause of the fault of the students to solve the problems on trigonometric material with Newman method. This type of research is a case study research. The subjects of this research were 25 students of SMA Negeri 5 Tanjungpinang. The 25 students took the test and continued with an interview. Data collection techniques in this study were tests, interviews, and documentation. The previous test will be validated by testing it in a control class of 25 students. The results of the tests in the control class will be validated by testing the validity, reliability, difficulty level, and distinguishing power. Data analysis in ths research is data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of this study obtained from each type of errors is 4% reading errors, 14% comprehension error, 21% transformation error, 48% process skill error, and 13% encoding error.. These results indicate that students are the most dominant in making process skils errors compared to other mistakes. In general, the factors the cause of the error is less understand information about, not remember the formula, less conscientious in completing the questions, and not re-examine the results of his work.
