Abstract

The idea of ​​a culture-based mathematics education shows a link between mathematics and culture. One of the cultures that develops in society and is close to students is traditional games. Through traditional games, it can be used as a medium to teach children the concepts of simple counting operations. In addition, in traditional games, there are character values ​​that can shape a child's personality. One of the traditional games in the Riau Islands Province is the Conch Ball. This game is generally played by 2-6 players who sit in a circle. This study aims to describe the mathematical thinking and character values ​​found in the traditional game of the conch ball. The research began by collecting data through interviews, observation and direct documentation to the local area and then analyzed the content of mathematical thinking and the character values ​​contained therein. The results showed that the conch ball game contains mathematical thinking on the topic of addition, circle, and comparison operations. This game can also train the character of discipline, honesty, cooperation, responsibility, and discipline
