Abstract

The purpose of this study is to interpret and analyze the intentions of illocutionary speech acts based on Austin's theory on banners in Tanjungpinang Timur District. This research uses descriptive qualitative method. The object of research is speech acts on banners in Tanjungpinang Timur District. The data examined in this study are utterances or sentences containing speech acts on banners in Tanjungpinang Timur District. The primary data source in this research is the banners in Tanjungpinang Timur District. Data collection techniques using documentation and note-taking techniques.
The results of the study were obtained from the analysis of illocutionary speech acts on banners consisting of veructive illicit speech acts; Excerative illocutionary acts of speech which include acts of illocutionary acts of commanding, invoking, prohibiting and warning; commissive illocutionary speech acts which include commissive illocutionary speech acts promising and offering; behavioral illocutionary speech acts that include congratulatory illocutionary acts; and expository illocutionary speech acts which include expository illocutionary acts and informing informants.
