Abstract

This research aims to determine the increase in students ' critical thinking by applying Contextual Teaching and Learning oriented Higher Order Thinking Skill in class VII SMP Negeri 1 Tanjungpinang. The type of research used is experimental quasi with pretest-postest control group design. The population used is the entire grade VII student of SMP Negeri 1 Tanjungpinang school year 2018/2019 consisting of 6 classes. The research took two classes of samples taken by voting six class VII SMP Negeri 1 Tanjungpinang, acquired class VII. 6 as an experimental class and class VII. 4 as the control class. Data collection is carried out using a HOTS test instrument to measure students ' critical thinking skills in comparative material. From the analysis results obtained an average increase in experimental class critical thinking ability of 0.53, while the average control class critical thinking ability of 0.43. The results of GIS. (2-tailed) in the Independent T-Test show a value of 0049. Because the test is done is test one party (test right side), the value of GIS. = 1/2 × value of Sig. (2-tailed) = 1/2 × 0049 = 0.0245 and 0.0245 ≤ 0.05. It can be concluded that Ho was rejected meaning an increase in the critical thinking skills of students who gained learning with the Contextual Teaching and Learning oriented Higher Order Thinking Skill higher than the students who gained Conventional learning
