Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe students' misconceptions in solving the problem of inequality of the linear absolute value of a variable along with any factors that cause students to experience misconceptions . The selection of research subjects using purposive sampling with 10 students of class X IPS 1 as the research subjects selected based on test results . This study uses a qualitative approach to the type of descriptive research. Data collection techniques in the form of tests and interviews. The type of test used is a three-tier test . The instrument in this study was a test sheet and interview guidelines. Data analysis techniques consist of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions. The results in this study are there are 10 students who experience misconceptions. Students experiencing misconceptions are only found in item number 2. The location of students' mistakes can be in the form of mathematical modeling, wrong in calculation, and inaccurate in working on the problem. These errors are included in correlational misconceptions and theoretical misconceptions. Factors that cause students to experience misconceptions in the form of an initial concept that is wrong / incorrect, provide incomplete data / reasons, and lack of learning experience.
