Students' difficulties in learning speaking skill at SMPN Tanjungpinang

Abstract

The purpose of the research was to know the difficulties faced by English students in learning English speaking skill at SMPN 6 Tanjungpinang. This research was qualitative and the instrument was observation. The participants of the research were 186 students at the eighth grade. There were 32 students of class 8.5 and 30 other students of class 8.6 at SMPN 6 Tanjungpinang in the academic year of 2019/2020 who had been the data resources. The researcher adapted intra case analysis to determine the difficulties faced by the students. The result showed that the difficulties caused by the students themselves, teachers, and environment. Therefore, the teachers were expected to improve themselves and find appropriate strategy for these problems.
