THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THINK ALOUD STRATEGY IN STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION OF DESCRIPTIVE TEXT

Abstract

The research has aimed to know the effect of the think aloud strategy in students’readingcomprehensionof descriptive text at the tenth grade of SMAN 6 Tanjungpinang. To achieve the purpose, the researcher was entering classes and applies the strategy herself. This decision was facilitated the process of collecting data from the main source students. In this research, the researcher used a quasi-experimental method with pre-test and post-test.T-test results show that the Think Aloud Strategy is an effective strategy of reading because the T-test P-Value = 0.000 is smaller than the Alpha 0.05. The average pre-test experiment class result was 44.50 and the post-test experiment class was 88.50 with an average difference in results was 44.00, his indicate this strategy was able to improve student outcomes. The control class also got a good increase of 28.50.There were some advances where in the pre-test there were 2 students who scored 0 on the pre-test. The value of 0 was not found in post-test.
