THE CORRELATION BETWEEN STUDENTS SELF-ESTEEM AND WRITING SKILL AT SMA NEGERI 2 TANJUNGPINANG

This study discussed the relationship between students' self-esteem and writing skills. The form of this research was quantitative descriptive research. The subjects of this study were students of class X MIA SMAN 2 Tanjungpinang in the academic year 2019/2020. Researchers used questionnaires and writing tests. The researcher found that the students’ self-esteem was 67.00%, it can be concluded that students’ self-esteem at SMA Negeri 2 Tanjungpinang is middle. To find out the percentage, the observed number of N must be compared with the expected number in this research. So, 2.384 divided 30, the result is 79.47%. It means that their writing test score is good. The researcher found that for variable X, mean was 114.8333, standard deviation was 81.6000 and N was 30. And then, for variable Y, the mean was 16.45701, standard deviation was 10.314923 and N was 30. The correlation between students’ self-esteem (X) and writing skill (Y), significant value (sig. 2-tailed), the sample (N) and analyzing technique is using Pearson Correlation. The value of correlation coefficient ( r ) is 0.94
