## Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify and describe the types of errors of class VII students and the factors causing errors that occurred in solving math problems in the Triangle material. The type of research used in this research is descriptive qualitative research. The place where this research was carried out was at SMPN 10 Tanjungpinang. This study took research subjects as many as 4 students. The data analysis techniques used in this research are data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. After the data has been analyzed, the validity of the data is then validated using a member check, which is asking students to confirm the mistakes that have been made. The results obtained from this study are the types of conceptual errors which include 1) errors in determining formulas or theorems as much as 88.9%, 2) errors in using formulas or theorems as much as 100%, and errors in writing formulas or definitions as much as 100%. Then the types of procedural errors which include 1) errors in the regularity of the problem solving steps as much as 100%, and errors in manipulating the steps of solving mathematical problems as much as 83.33%. As well as the type of error in using operations or calculations as much as 100%. The factors that cause student errors are because 1) students do not understand how to do the given math problem, 2) students do not know the right formula to solve the problem, 3) students cannot apply the formula to the problem, 4) students less thorough in solving math problems, 5) students are less skilled in finding solutions to solve math problems, and 6) students make mistakes in the calculation process.
