Abstract

The difficulty of students in understanding chemistry is marked by the inability of students to solve chemistry problems in the form of concepts and chemical calculations correctly. The purpose of this research was to find out the students conceptual and algorithms errors in solving chemistry problems on the subject of thermochemistry and the relationship. Data analysis technique using qualitative data analysis. The research was conducted at SMA N 3 Tanjungpinang with the population being class XI MIPA.  The subjects of this study were 25 people in class XI IPA. The technique used in this research is by spreading essay tests. The results of this study showed that the conceptual error profile identified 4 students who were categorized as very high with a conceptual error percentage of 91.7%, 3 student who were categorized as high with a conceptual error percentage of 75%,  7 student who were categorized as medium with a conceptual error percentage of  58,4%,  5 student who were categorized as low with a conceptual error percentage of  33,5%,  and  6 student who were categorized as very low with a conceptual error percentage of  33,5%. Algorithm error profiles were identified in 5 categories, namely 1 student who was in the very high category with a percent algorithm error of 88.9%,3  student who was in the high category with a percent algorithm error 72,3%,  8  student who was in the medium category with a percent algorithm error 55,6%, 9 student who was in the low category with a percent algorithm error 39%, and 4 student who was in the very low category with a percent algorithm error 19,5%.
