Abstract

Misconceptions are students' understanding of concepts that are not in accordance with scientific concepts accepted by scientists in their fields. Identifying misconceptions or concept discrepancies must be done as early as possible so as not to cause ongoing conceptual discrepancies in other chemical materials. This study aims to determine the level of students' misconceptions at MAN Tanjungpinang and the causes of their misconceptions. The research method used is descriptive quantitative method. Data was collected on 91 students in grades X, XI, and XII, using an instrument in the form of a diagnostic test using the CRI method. While the sampling technique used is proportional stratified random sampling. The results showed that the percentage of students' misconceptions in class X on redox material was 23%, then for class XI students was 54%, and for class XII it was 63%. So it can be concluded that the misconceptions that occur in class X students are included in the "low" category. Then the class XI students are included in the "medium" category. And the class XII students are also included in the "medium" category. While the causes of students' misconceptions for class X, are caused by students' associative thinking, incomplete/wrong reasoning, and wrong intuition. Then for class XI students, it is caused by students' associative thinking, incomplete/wrong reasoning, wrong intuition, students' abilities, and students' interest in learning. And for class XII, it is caused by students' associative thinking, humanistic thinking, incomplete/wrong reasoning, wrong intuition, students' abilities, and students' interest in learning.
