Abstract

This study aims to determine the level of students' argumentation skills on the material of motion systems in class XI IPA MAN Tanjungpinang. This research is a type of descriptive research with a quantitative approach. The sample in this study amounted to 13 students of class XI IPA for the academic year 2020/2021 MAN Tanjungpinang. The data collection technique in this study used a test instrument in the form of essay questions as many as 15 questions. This instrument is used to determine students' argumentation skills. The results of the test analysis of the aspect of the argumentation ability indicator on the aspect of being able to express an opinion (claim), being able to provide a support (evidence), being able to convince others of the opinion (reasoning) and being able to give a rebuttal (rebuttal). From the results of the study, students' argumentation skills were in the Claim aspect 87%, Evidence 40%, Reasoning 29%, and in the Rebuttal aspect 23%. Overall, the argumentation ability of class XI IPA MAN Tanjungpinang students in conveying arguments is in accordance with 4 aspects of argumentation, at the excellent, good and very weak 0% level, at the moderate level 80%, and at the weak level 20%. In the learning process students are only able to convey arguments only in submitting claims, but for evidence, reasoning, and rebuttal students are still weak.
