Abstract

This study uses a descriptive research method that aims to describe a phenomenon that occurs by describing and identifying the variables used, namely, student creativity. The population in this study were all students of class VIII at SMP Negeri 5 Tanjungpinang which consisted of 220 students and the number of samples used was 68 students obtained using purposive sampling technique. The research instrument used was a creativity test instrument in the form of essays and creativity assessment instruments that were adjusted to the aspects of creativity according to Guilford (1973: 3), namely fluency, flexibility, originality and elaboration. The results of the research that have been carried out show that the creativity category of VIII grade students at SMP Negeri 5 Tanjungpinang is very good (54.5%) and good (45.5%).
