Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of capital, age, distance traveled to sea, and
operating costs on fishermen's income in Kawal Village, Gunung Kijang District, Bintan Regency.
The variables used in this study are capital (X1), age, (X2), fishing distance (X3), and operating
costs (X4) as independent variables and fishermen income (Y) as the dependent variable. The
method in this research is using descriptive quantitative method. The population in this study were
fishermen who live in the Kawal Village, Gunung Kijang District, Bintan Regency. This study uses
primary data in the form of capital, age, distance traveled to go to sea and operating costs and
income of fishermen in November. The sample method used in this study was purposive sampling
with a total of 47 fishermen as the research sample. The method of analysis of this research is using
multiple linear regression analysis. The results of this study indicate that capital and age have no
effect on fishermen's income, because the farther the distance to go to sea and the greater the
operational costs incurred, it will increase the income of fishermen. Capital, distance traveled to
sea and operational costs simultaneously affect fishermen's income. The ability of capital, age,
distance to sea and operational costs in explaining fishermen's income is 27% and the remaining
73% is explained by other variables not discussed in this study.
